A loose, airy deciduous shrub with delicate foliage. Spike-like clusters of purple-blue flowers with orange anthers at tips of stems. Suitable for rain gardens, pond edges and other wet areas. Tolerates dry spells as well as occasional flooding. Attracts butterflies and bees. Larval host for the Southern Dogface Butterfly, Gray Hairstreak, Silver-spotted Skipper and Hoary Edge Skipper.
