An abundance of yellow and red flowers attract bees and butterflies. Flowers have a long bloom time, from spring through fall. Fine, feathery foliage provides interest on its own. A real showstopper when planted en masse. Annual; allow it to set seed to ensure blooms the following year. Taller plants may need support. Host plant for the Wavy-Lined Emerald Moth (Synchlora aerate) and the Dimorphic Gray Moth (Tornos scolopacinarius). The beetle Calligrapha californica feeds on the foliage. Birds eat the seeds.
