Tall, erect plants topped with huge domed flower clusters attract a variety of butterflies, bumblebees and other long-tongued bees. Long, dark green whorled leaves add interest. Tolerates temporary standing water; good for rain gardens. Seeds eaten by swamp sparrows. Clumps can be divided in spring or fall . This large plant may be intimidating to some urban gardeners, but it is a powerhouse for pollinators and can be used as a stunning architectural element at the back of a bed.
