Bright golden-yellow flowers attract butterflies, bees and a wide array of other pollinators. Early blooms are used by bees provisioning nests. Attracts a wide variety of bees, including several Rudbeckia specialists. Suitable for small spaces and also a real showstopper when used in a mass planting. Larval host for Wavy-Lined Emerald Moth (Synchlora aerata), Southern Emerald Moth (Synchlora frondaria), Common Eupithecia (Eupithecia miserulata) Silvery Checkerspot Butterfly (Chlosyne nycteis), Gorgone Checkerspot (Chlosyne gorgone) and Bordered Patch Butterfly (Chlosyne lacinia). Seeds are eaten by birds, particularly goldfinches. Depending on growing conditions, Rudbeckia hirta may act as an annual or short-live perennial.
